Import Duties, Taxes & Customs Clearance
NORLANYA ships beauty devices and professional aesthetic equipment to customers in many countries and regions. Import requirements, customs procedures, duties and taxes vary depending on the destination, product type and intended use.
The information below provides general guidance only. Importers should confirm the applicable requirements with their local customs authority, customs broker or other qualified professional before placing an order.
1. Importer of Record
For international shipments, the recipient or purchaser is normally the importer of record, unless otherwise agreed in writing.
The importer is responsible for complying with the laws and import requirements of the destination country or region, including where applicable:
- customs declarations;
- import permits or registrations;
- product regulatory requirements;
- local taxes and duties;
- importer identification numbers; and
- other information requested by customs or regulatory authorities.
NORLANYA will provide reasonable assistance with available shipping and product documentation, but the importer remains responsible for confirming local import requirements.
2. Import Duties, Taxes and Customs Fees
International shipments may be subject to:
- customs duties;
- import VAT or sales tax;
- customs clearance fees;
- brokerage charges;
- storage charges; or
- other destination-country fees.
Unless otherwise specifically stated in the quotation, invoice or sales agreement, these charges are not included in the product price or shipping charge and are the responsibility of the recipient.
NORLANYA does not control these charges and cannot reliably estimate the amount that may be imposed by authorities or service providers in each destination.
3. Customs Clearance
Depending on the shipping method, customs clearance may be handled by:
- the express courier;
- the customer’s customs broker or freight forwarder; or
- the importer directly.
The importer may be required to provide additional information or documentation before the shipment can be released.
This may include a tax identification number, importer registration number, company registration information, personal identification information or other documents required by local authorities.
Failure to provide requested information may result in customs delays, storage charges, return of the shipment or other additional costs.
4. Product Documentation
The documentation available for a product depends on the particular model and destination market.
Where applicable and available, NORLANYA may provide documents such as:
- commercial invoice;
- packing list;
- product specifications;
- user manual;
- Declaration of Conformity;
- CE-related conformity documentation;
- test reports;
- certificates or declarations relating to particular regulatory requirements; and
- other product documents reasonably required for customs clearance.
Not every NORLANYA product has the same certificates, approvals or regulatory status.
Customers who require a particular certificate, registration, test report or conformity document should confirm its availability before placing the order.
5. CE, RoHS and Other Regulatory Requirements
Regulatory requirements vary according to the product and destination.
For products placed on the European market, applicable EU legislation may require CE marking and supporting conformity documentation.
RoHS, where applicable, concerns restrictions on certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment and should not be treated as a general customs clearance certificate.
Other markets may have their own product safety, electromagnetic compatibility, electrical, radio, medical-device or other regulatory requirements.
The existence of documentation for one market does not automatically mean that the same product satisfies the requirements of every other country.
6. Professional and Medical/Aesthetic Equipment
Professional beauty equipment, laser systems and certain medical or aesthetic devices may be subject to additional requirements in the destination country.
Depending on the product and jurisdiction, these may include:
- product registration;
- importer or distributor registration;
- medical-device requirements;
- professional-use restrictions;
- laser safety requirements;
- electrical safety requirements;
- local labeling requirements; or
- approval by a national regulatory authority.
Purchasers of professional equipment should confirm these requirements before ordering, especially where the equipment will be used in a salon, spa, clinic or medical environment.
NORLANYA can provide available product information and documentation to assist with this review, but cannot guarantee that a product may legally be imported, registered or used for every intended purpose in every jurisdiction.
7. Customs Delays
Customs clearance may cause delivery delays beyond the estimated transportation time.
Possible causes include:
- routine customs inspection;
- requests for additional documents;
- product classification review;
- regulatory inspection;
- payment of duties or taxes;
- importer registration issues; or
- other local customs procedures.
Such delays are generally outside NORLANYA’s direct control.
Please also refer to our Shipment page for estimated transportation times.
8. Product Classification and HS Codes
Where reasonably available, NORLANYA may provide product descriptions and suggested customs information to assist with shipping documentation.
However, final tariff classification, HS code determination and customs treatment are subject to the rules and decisions of the destination-country customs authority.
Customers or their customs brokers should confirm the appropriate classification where necessary.
9. Refused, Returned or Abandoned Shipments
If a shipment cannot be cleared because the recipient:
- refuses to pay applicable duties or taxes;
- fails to provide required customs information;
- does not have a required import authorization; or
- refuses or abandons the shipment,
the shipment may be returned, stored or disposed of by the carrier or customs authority.
Any resulting return freight, storage charges, customs charges or other costs may be deducted from any refund or charged to the customer, to the extent permitted by applicable law.
This does not affect any mandatory consumer rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.
10. Need Documentation Before Ordering?
If you are purchasing professional equipment or require specific documents for import clearance, please contact NORLANYA before placing your order.
Please provide:
- product model;
- destination country;
- intended use; and
- any specific certificate or document requested by your customs broker or local authority.
We will confirm what documentation is available for the particular product.
